Plans_First

These are plans for a Catholic Elementary School. It has several classes, chapel. auditorium, cafeteria, offices, library, etc.
Pic 1: Its the first floor, it consists of the Cafe, and general offices.
Pic 2: Its the second floor, its mostly for the Gymnasium. It has locker rooms, and bigger bathrooms then the rest of the floors.
Pic 3: The 3rd floor consists of the library and computer rooms. Since there aren't as many students and also since they are young, they don't need as many computer rooms. The library is both indoor and outdoor.
Pic 4: The 4th floor is mostly classrooms, and Auditorium. There are also group classrooms.
Pic 5: 5th floor is the chapel, the layout is still in works. But the whole space goes to making the chapel. And the outside is a roof garden.
Pic 6: Shows the building shape without the roof. The image below shows the shape of the roof.

  1. Hey Jaspreet. I do not know if this Catholic Elementary school is connected to your last post on April 22. If it is, I am wondering why did you back down with more exotic shapes. This is not a problem but I would encourage that you take more chance. Let me know if you would like a little guidance on that.

  2. As for the new general design. There are serveral things you should consider. I do not know what is your program but looking at the spaces it seems you have a lot of room to play with the depth of space and the form of the building. For example you can eliminate some space on the fourth floor to get some kind of step effect going with the form of the building. I am not yet commenting on the space planning of the building but the form. There is a huge corridor in the fourth floor that can be much smaller. The one that is across from the elevators. In fact all of your hallway are different sizes on each floor. You should keep consistent corridor sizes and only change size (not dramatically) when you are making a point, like this area will be heavily populated. A way to help you think better is to consider how the building will be held up, the structure. Don't get locked into structure but you still should keep it in mind.

  3. I would like to heavily emphasis on your presentation. It is unfortunate to say but your plans come of a little boring and hard to read. This is because of your line weights. It is also because there are no indications of doors or what is or what is not an elevator. I had to guess as an architectural student and that was still hard. your plans should be easy to read from a regular guys perspective. I am not even sure what are those blocks on the side of the elevators. Are they stairs and how can I access them. The spacing of chairs and tables are either to close or not properly layed out. It look like you rushed your presentation part. Believe it or not, if you have a bad plan and a beautiful presentation people are willing to forgive and give you more time but if it is vice versa they would not even want to look at it.Spend more time on the presentation. It is necessary. I am not sure if this is the beginning stage but you should still have a better presentation. Your presentation represents you. I learned that the hard way. don't let it happen to you.

  4. There are more things that I can comment on but I don't want you to get overwhelmed. Don't be discouraged. this is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism for you benefit. I encourage that you keep up the good work and keep on chucking up those stairs. If there is anything you're sketchy about let me know and I advise you also let your professor know what I'm telling you. I don't want go against there teaching but be a support.
